Methodist South Hospital Slated for Energy-Efficient Renovation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Methodist Healthcare began a full renovation to its intensive care unit (ICU) at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis. The project started the last week of August and is scheduled to be complete by fall 2017.

The 16-bed ICU will have an additional 50 square feet added to each patient room, upgraded technology and eight new nurses’ stations. Green design features will include increased natural light, new interior finishes and hand-washing stations designed to maximize virus and bacteria control.

“The added space will allow our nurses and physicians to move more freely as they care for our patients,” said Methodist South CEO Jay Robinson in a statement.

Construction on Methodist South Hospital in Memphis started in the last week of August and will add space to patient rooms as well as new nursing stations.

The design architect is Sigmon Consulting PLLC, and construction will be led by Belz Architecture. Both companies are located locally in Memphis. Sigmon Consulting PLLC could not reveal the cost of the renovation as it is still under bid.

The ICU will remain open and fully functional throughout the duration of the project. By adding space to each room as well as additional nursing stations, the hospital will have a chance to upgrade facilities with the latest technology and features that lower energy costs for the hospital.

Since the hospital is nationally known for its inpatient services, the added space to each room will be a welcomed and needed addition. In the past year, the hospital has seen 61,926 total admissions, while supervising more than 319,852 inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures.

“By adding more nurse stations, we hope to make our care plans more efficient for the nurses, which will in turn have a positive impact on our patients’ experience,” said ICU Clinical Director Rhonda Davis in a statement.
