McPherson Healthcare Foundation Nears Fundraising Goal

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The JE and LE Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., awarded the McPherson Healthcare Foundation a $750,000 challenge grant towards the first phase of construction for McPherson Hospital’s Caring for the Future Capital Campaign in McPherson, according to the McPherson Sentinel. The grant money being raised, however, is contingent on the balance needed for the total project.

The Caring for the Future Campaign project will focus on creating quality outpatient services for the surrounding community, including creating additional clinical space for outpatient physicians at McPherson Hospital. The funding for the multi-phased campaign started in July 2014 with a goal of raising $5 million for the first phase of the project. At this point, $3 million has been contributed and pledged to the first phase, according to McPherson Sentinel. If they want to have a varied range of reaching their goal, they can set up online fundraisers to help them get to what they need by reaching out to the community, but they will need to discuss this with board members first.

“This grant provides a tremendous boost toward the completion of our campaign,” Amy Bower, director of development for the McPherson Healthcare Foundation, said in a statement. The grant from the Mabee Foundation is the largest contribution the foundation has received so far and hospital officials feel the grant may be the momentum the foundation needs to complete the funding for Phase I.

Receiving the grant was a team effort, according to Rob Monical, president and CEO of McPherson Hospital. The Hospital Board of Directors, the Foundation Board, the Volunteer Board of Directors and the MACCO Corporation were able to develop a plan to push the renovations forward. The residents of McPherson County and hospital employees were also a key part of receiving the funding as they represented a community with a common purpose to the Mabee Foundation director. The community was committed to campaigns and initiatives to raise funds for the renovations.

Employees of McPherson Hospital have also donated to the Caring for the Future Campaign through fundraising efforts, according to McPherson Sentinel. Last year, the PRIDE Committee at McPherson hospital, an employee-run fundraising group that invests its funds back into the facility for upgrades that are not budgeted, made the decision to put the funds raised over the next three years toward the Caring for the Future Campaign.
