Christ Hospital Reveals Major Medical Center Plans

CINCINNATI — Officials at The Christ Hospital Health Network, based in Cincinnati, revealed plans on July 7 to build a comprehensive medical center in Butler County, Ohio.

The network will break ground in October 2015 on The Christ Hospital Medical Center-Liberty Township, which will sit on 17 acres. The hospital will offer surgical services, including rooms with extended recovery for patients, an emergency room, comprehensive radiology imaging, outpatient therapies as well as physician services that include primary care, orthopedics, cardiology and urology. It will also have an emergency room and helicopter pad.

“It will be our first freestanding ER,” Victor DiPilla, vice president and chief business development officer for Christ Hospital told the Cincinnati Business Courier. “It’s just because of the distance from the main campus. We will have a helipad for patients that need to be transferred back to the main campus in a more expedient manner.”

The Christ Hospital is working closely with the Liberty Township Trustees on the project. A 125,000-square-foot site plan as well as other planning documents were submitted to the township. The hospital didn’t name how many rooms the hospital will have or how much the project will cost.

Butler County has a population of roughly 370,000 residents, according to census data, and the region is growing with the development of a major health care corridor along Interstate 75, according to Cincinnati.com. It’s expected the hospital will bring in more than 300 jobs.

The new Christ Hospital facility will be one mile north of UC Health’s West Chester Hospital. Those two centers are five miles east of TriHealth’s Bethesda Butler complex. The new Christ Hospital building also will be just east of the I-75 interchange at Ohio 129 from the Liberty Campus of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

The Christ Hospital Health Network’s flagship hospital is an acute-care hospital located in Mt. Auburn with five ambulatory centers and 181 neighborhood offices located throughout the Cincinnati area. The health network recently opened outpatient centers in Montgomery and in Fort Wright, Ky., and is planning another medical center in Fort Mitchell, Ky.

The Christ Hospital Medical Center – Liberty Township project is being completed in collaboration with real estate developer Brandicorp of Bellevue, Ky; architectural firms HKS Inc. of Dallas and GBBN Architects of Cincinnati; construction manager Danis Building Company of Dayton, Ohio; civil engineering firm Bayer Becker of Mason, Ohio.

“The Christ Hospital’s mission is to provide the best outcomes and the finest experiences, all in affordable way. We look forward to extending our reach and convenient access to exceptional medical care to our patients and consumers in Butler County,” said Mike Keating, president and CEO of The Christ Hospital Health Network, in a statement.

Hospital officials expect to open the new hospital in winter 2017.
