Sumter Medical Center Named Most Beautiful Hospital

ATLANTA — Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Ga., is the most beautiful hospital in the country, according to Atlanta-based Soliant Health.

Soliant Health, a specialty health care staffing provider and part of Adecco Group, a Swiss human resource consulting company, revealed its picks on June 15 for 2015’s most beautiful hospitals. For the past seven years, Soliant Health has turned to hospital staff, patients and supporters to name the top 20 most beautiful hospitals in the U.S..

After receiving more than 70 nominations this year, Soliant opened up the contest to a month-long voting period to determine the winners. Soliant received almost 400,000 votes, the most the competition has ever received.

Voters chose Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, with the hospital garnering more than 95,000 votes, breaking the record of every hospital that has ever been in the running for Soliant’s Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. contest.

“Phoebe Sumter Medical Center is honored to be selected by Soliant for this prestigious award and national recognition,” said Brandi Lunneborg, CEO of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, in a statement. “Phoebe Sumter is a beautiful facility with the best a modern hospital has to offer, delivering a patient-centered, healing atmosphere. The physical beauty of the hospital is enhanced daily by the pride, support and love of our staff and our community who are dedicated to its success. We are so excited to share this wonderful award with them and thank them for their continued faith in us to provide them with the best health care in southwest Georgia.”

Phoebe Sumter Medical Center is LEED certified and features an eco-friendly rooftop garden, use of natural lighting and private patient rooms. The medical center also has Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores that exceed national standards on quietness and cleanliness.

Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, operated by Albany, Ga.-based Phoebe Putney Health System, opened its doors in 2012 following a $21.5 million expansion and renovation. The facility was previously known as Sumter Regional Hospital before an F3 tornado ravaged the town of Americus, destroying the hospital in its path.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Greshman Smith & Partners served as the architect on the project, with Birmingham, Ala.-based Brasfield & Gorrie as the construction manager.

“Following a devastating tornado in early 2007, Phoebe was humbled by the confidence that Sumter County health care leaders placed in us by allowing us to rebuild their destroyed hospital,” said Joel Wernick, Phoebe Putney Health System President and CEO. “Our goal was to build a hospital for the future, a hospital of hope for all in need and a hospital designed to foster great community pride. This award validates the work we have done and propels us forward, encouraged to overcome the health environment challenges ahead.”
