Venetian Care & Rehabilitation Center Offers New Approach to Senior Living

SOUTH AMBOY, N.J. – The new Venetian Care & Rehabilitation Center from Windsor Healthcare Communities, a long-term care facility on the South Amboy waterfront, will offer residents a home-like environment that invites them to mingle in nine “neighborhoods” within the center.

Opening in August, the center’s neighborhoods stray from traditional hospital-like settings that come with many nursing homes. There are no long corridors; instead, three neighborhoods on each floor welcome residents with living areas, pantries and spas for showering. Each neighborhood in the Venetian has a full kitchen with an oven, stove, microwave and refrigerator. The neighborhoods have different themes to help patients get familiar with their surroundings. A tree theme on the first floor, for example, gives that neighborhood a distinct identity and provides visual cues to help patients with dementia stay oriented when changing floors or moving through different parts of the center.

“Each neighborhood is built like a home,” said Batsheva Katz, vice president of Windsor Healthcare Communities, in a statement. “It’s a setting that enables our care partners to provide truly personalized care. The neighborhoods allow residents and care partners to have the same quality of interactions that friends and neighbors do at home.”

People would love to see their elderly in a safe and sound environment. They would be willing to help the old citizens, especially those residing in a nursing home. It is not easy paying for nursing home when money runs out. Having a Medicaid can be beneficial when it comes to paying for a nursing home treatment. If you’re not quite sure about a Medicaid help, Rochester Law Center could solve your queries.

Home to 60 short-term residents and 120 nursing-home residents, the 93,000-square-foot center is built in an E shape, and offers other spaces in addition to its neighborhood features, including multiple dining rooms, recreational areas, libraries and outdoor gardens. The designated therapy garden replicates Windsor’s therapy garden at Merwick Care and Rehabilitation Center in Plainsboro, which won Vendome Healthcare Media’s inaugural Landscape Architecture Competition.

From their rooms, people living and staying at the Venetian will have views of the South Amboy community, including the water, surrounding gardens, the scenic townhome neighborhood and a recreation club. Windsor worked with South Amboy Mayor Fred Henry, members of the South Amboy Planning Board and other officials to create the Venetian as part of the larger waterfront development project.

“We are very excited to welcome residents and their families to our beautiful new community and to contribute to the rebirth of the South Amboy waterfront area at the same time,” said Hyman Jacobs, founder and CEO of Windsor Healthcare Communities, in a statement.

Jacobs describes the Venetian as the future of long-term care. While the center accommodates permanent residents, it provides two state-of-the art rehabilitation gyms, enabling short-term guests recovering from an accident or surgery to undergo clinician-prescribed physical, occupational and speech therapy. Additionally, each room has individual heating and cooling controls, flat-panel television and wireless Internet, which is also available in other spaces throughout the home.

“We designed this home with an emphasis on comfort and a home-like environment,” Jacobs said. “From the location we chose to the floor plan and the rooms, we’ve created an environment that will allow us to treat each person as a unique individual and tailor their care around their needs and preferences.”
