Construction to Begin at Major Ambulatory Facility Near Cincinnati

CINCINNATI — Construction is set to begin on a massive 112,000-square-foot ambulatory facility in Kenwood, a community north of Cincinnati.

Scheduled to open at the end of 2015, the TriHealth Kenwood building will be four times the size of the current Group Health Kenwood facility, which will be torn down to make way for the development. For developers Scott Street Partners, based in Cincinnati, the layout of the site is a tight squeeze until demolition can be completed on the current 24,000-square-foot facility, which can only be taken down after the new facility is built and staff is moved out. The old structure will then be replaced with a parking garage.

“The single biggest challenge is the tight space in which the new footprint exists until we are able to demolish the current building one of the current practices currently occupies,” said Joe Kelley, manager, media relations for TriHealth.

Some key design elements for the new hospital include lots of glass, plenty of natural light, easy access to all service locations within the building and a focus on providing contiguous services for patients and visitors.

The new building will move current primary care doctors out of the group health facility, expanding the number of doctors from five to eight. The facility offers pediatrics, adult primary care, OB/GYN and other specialty services. It will also include space for TriHealth’s Cancer Institute and Heart Institute, which will also have offices at TriHealth’s Bethesda North campus.

Last year, The TriHealth Heart Institute achieved the highest quality patient outcomes as measured by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).

“The main focus on the TriHealth Kenwood project will be to create a patient-friendly facility that incorporates system integration. The facility will include a nice blend of different physicians, specialists, imaging and community resources all in the confines of a beautiful new state-of-the-art facility,” Kelley said.

More advanced equipment for the hospital includes on-site diagnostic imaging, including CT, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography and dexa scanning.

In 2013, Truven Health Analytics named TriHealth one of the nation’s top 15 health systems. TriHealth was chosen based on high-quality patient care criteria, such as better survival rates, lower 30-day mortality rates, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and better patient safety and core measure adherence.

“We are proud to be nationally recognized for being one of the 15 Top Health Systems in providing high-quality patient care,” said John Prout, TriHealth president and CEO, in a statement. “Our strong partnerships between our hospitals, physicians and the communities we serve means efficient and safe care for our patients. Being identified as a top health system confirms the commitment of all of our doctors, nurses and employees to providing the best possible care for our patients.”

TriHealth did not disclose the cost of the project.
