NorthBay Health Care Announces Construction Projects

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — At Monday’s opening of the new $20 million Green Valley Health Plaza, NorthBay Healthcare announced two major construction projects slated for the organization’s Fairfield and Vacaville campuses. The two new construction projects will total $180 million.

The 132-bed North Bay Medical Center in Fairfield, Calif., will undergo $140 million in upgrades and will receive a new three-story wing and lobby entrance. The VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville, Calif., will construct a $40 million, 105,000-square-foot office building.

“The landscape of health care, as everyone understands by now, is changing,” said Gary Passam, president and CEO of NorthBay Healthcare, at the opening of the new health plaza. “And we are changing with it.”

The two-story, 37,00-square-foot Green Valley Health Plaza features a primary care clinic, hospice and bereavement, home health and gastroenterology services. Construction on the project took approximately two years to complete. LBL Architecture of San Francisco designed the project and DPR Construction, which holds local offices, was the general contractor.

“This is pretty special for us since it represents the continual growth of the only locally owned, locally governed health care system in Solano County that is open to all,” Passama said.

Groundbreaking at the Fairfield campus is expected to begin in late 2015, according to hospital officials. The 77,000-square-foot addition will include an expanded emergency department, six new surgical suites, two cardiac catheterization labs, a renovated cafeteria and kitchen, updated diagnostic imaging department and space to move 22 patient beds from the oldest portion of the hospital. This will be the first phase of construction in the hospital’s master plan, which may require 10 to 15 years to complete.

“Know that this is only the first phase,” Passama said. “When we eventually finish all construction, modernization and replacement of the older sections, it could exceed $400 million during the next decade or longer.”

At the VacaValley Hospital, the new building will feature a state-of-the-art medical fitness center, a diagnostic imaging center and be the new home of the NorthBay Cancer Center.
“Our vision for Vacaville includes a health village with approximately half of the campus devoted to services outside of the hospital,” said Passama.

Construction for the VacaValley Hospital project is due to begin in October.
