MountainStar Healthcare Opens Utah ER

DRAPER, Utah — Utah’s only standalone emergency department, the Lone Peak Emergency Center, is now open. The Level III trauma center represents the beginnings of MountainStar Healthcare’s first medical campus to service Draper’s approximately 45,000 residents.

MountainStar Healthcare plans to build an 85-bed inpatient hospital on the site in the future.

The emergency center is located on the first floor of the recently built Lone Peak Medical Office Building, a three-story, 52,500-square-foot facility that will soon house Lone Peak General Surgery, Lone Peak Primary Care, and other medical offices.

The 11,000-square-foot trauma center is open 24/7, and is staffed by physicians and nurses from St. Mark’s Hospital, 60 miles away in Salt Lake City. The center features 10 exam rooms that include a trauma room, a room for psychiatric patients, and a negative-air exam room for patients who have been exposed to toxic substances. The facility also includes a radiation room, outpatient lab and ancillary services, as well as an imaging suite with MRI, ultrasound, CT scanner and X-ray capabilities.

Patients needing more acute care and surgery will be stabilized at the center before being transported to St. Mark’s via ambulance or helicopter.

The Lone Peak Emergency Center will extend Utah’s network of first responders and emergency care providers, allowing them to function more efficiently in the field in the event of a natural disaster, disease outbreak, or similar event. Though unique to Utah, similar satellite emergency facilities are located throughout the country, according to Layton Construction, the construction manager for the project.

Architectural Nexus of Salt Lake City designed the outpatient building and Devenney Group Ltd., of Phoenix, designed the emergency
department.
